2023 Chardonnay

$45

VINTAGE 2023 – an excellent white wine vintage, typified by good yields and a dry, mild ripening period resulting in flavoursome, aromatic wines.

VARIETAL 100% Chardonnay

APPEARANCE Pale, golden straw with brilliant green tints.

AROMA Vibrant fruit aromatics of white blossom, yellow grapefruit and fresh pineapple with lightly toasted almond and kaffir lime leaf complexity.

PALATE A delicate, succulent, textured palate. The wine shows good fruit weight – grapefruit, lime and white peach, with subtle complexities of sea spray, salted limes, toasted nuts. A succulent acid line balances phenolic crunch to ensure a wine of texture and substance

WINEMAKING Fruit was handpicked and whole-bunch pressed straight to barrel with full solids for natural ferment by wild yeast. Partial malolactic fermentation and judicious lees stirring during maturation built palate weight, texture and complexity. A blend of separate parcels, the wine was allowed to harmonise in tank before being heat and cold stabilised with minimal fining and filtered prior to bottling in December 2023.

OAK DETAIL 100% barrel fermented and matured for 9 months in a combination of 25% new, balance 1 and 2-year old French oak barriques.

CELLARING Ready for immediate drinking and will continue to drink well over the next 4-5 years.

FOOD PAIRING Drink with pan-fried, polenta crusted whiting fillets.

ALCOHOL VOLUME 12.6%
ACIDITY pH 3.23; TA 7.2g/L
RESIDUAL SUGAR 1.5/gl

AWARDS & REVIEWS
90 Points, Halliday Wine Companion - Jane Faulkner
"Give this some breathing space as it needs time to open. Then, expect lots of lemon tones from juice, pith to zest with glacé lime, too. The cedary, spicy and sweet oak infuses the tightly-coiled palate, yet there's plenty of refreshing, energising acidity in the mix, which balances out the slightly grippy phenolics before finishing nicely crisp and dry."
